Puakenikeni is one of the most fragrant and cherished flowers in Hawaii. Its name comes from the early 1900s when visitors arrived by boat and could buy a Lei Puakenikeni for only 10 cents. The word "puakenikeni" is made up of two words: "pua," which means flower, and "kenikeni," which means ten cents.
